Wildwood to Consider Plastic-bag Ban

WILDWOOD – Wildwood Commissioners would consider a ban on plastic bags and other single-use items, said Mayor Peter Byron.
At the Feb. 12 Wildwood Board of Commissioners meeting, Al Brannen held a clipped article from the Herald about Cape May adopting a ban on single-use plastics. Brannen asked if Wildwood would consider the same.
“It’s a righteous call,” Byron responded.
“Wildwood is a unique animal, in that there is a diversity of businesses in our city,” he stated, in an email, to the Herald. “An effective and successful program to ban one-use items needs to be carefully coordinated among all the players involved, to give those most affected by a possible ban a voice in how to move forward in a way that is environmentally responsible, while not imposing an undue economic burden on valued businesses.”
There was no word on a timeline for the potential ordinance.
