Wildwood OKs Purchase of Aerial Fire Truck, Engineer Delivers Bike Path Update

By Erin Haskell

WILDWOOD – Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr. and Commissioner Anthony Leonetti passed several resolutions during the Aug. 27 meeting. Commissioner Peter Byron was absent.
A resolution was passed to purchase a new 2014 Dodge Promaster, at $32,650 with a trade-in of a 1989 Chevy Stepvan at $2,000, for a balance of $30,650.
A resolution was passed authorizing the execution of a contract renewing the city’s membership in the Atlantic County Municipal Joint Insurance Fund. Wildwood is a member of the fund effective Dec. 31, 2014. The membership renewal is for a three-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2015. The fund provides insurance coverage to member municipalities.
An addendum was passed authorizing the city to enter into an inter-local agreement with Houston-Galveston Area Counsel (HGAC) for the purpose of purchasing fire equipment. The HGAC is a regional planning commission and political subdivision of Texas.
A second addendum was passed authorizing purchase of a 2014 E-One Hp78 eMax Aerial Fire Truck for $675,000 from First Choice Fire Apparatus of Hanover, Pa., which submitted their proposal, in conjunction with HGAC, to Wildwood.
Engineer’s Report
City Engineer Marc DeBlasio gave an update on the proposed beach bike path.
The Cape May County Open Space application for construction of an eight-foot wide beach bike path and associated playground equipment was submitted to the county Open Space Board Aug. 15. DeBlasio made a presentation to that board Aug. 26.
“Based on my observation, the application was received very well,” said DeBlasio.
Under capital improvements, DeBlasio noted that two U.S. Department of Agriculture contracts will come out of dormancy after Labor Day.
The Grassy Sound water main replacement project, which is the replacement of two twin pipes that enter under Grassy Sound in Middle Township, should go out to bid at the next regularly scheduled commissioners meeting Sept. 10, with an advertisement date of Sept. 13 and bid opening of Sept. 30.
“We’ll be looking to move that project into construction as quickly as possible,” said DeBlasio.
The bids for the 2014 NJDCA (Department of Community Affairs) Small Cities (Community Development Block Grant) CDBG Program, which includes the building of a Youngs Avenue comfort station, are being reviewed by the engineer’s office and the city solicitor.
Also, DeBlasio hopes to make an application to the USDA regarding sanitary sewer, water main improvements, known as Phase V. DeBlasio anticipates the USDA having an answer on those applications by Oct.
During the Feb. 26 commissioners’ meeting, DeBlasio stated that there were funds left over from the USDA project, known as the reconstruction of 26th Avenue, which would be converted into a stand-alone separate project to work on Lake Road for water main replacement and roadway reconstruction.
According to DeBlasio, designs for the improvements to Lake Road are wrapping up and a request for a bid schedule has been sent to the city clerk’s office.
DeBlasio hopes to advertise the bids Sept. 13, Sept. 20 or Sept. 27 with a bid opening of Sept. 30.
