WILDWOOD – The Insurance Services Office (ISO) – Public Protection Classification (PPC) for the city of Wildwood improved from a Class 4 to a Class 3 rating, which becomes effective July 1.
ISO collects information on municipal fire protection efforts throughout the United States. The communities’ PPC rating is evaluated based on emergency communications systems; fire departments; water supply; and community risk reduction efforts.
ISO analyzes the above noted data and then assigned a PPC classification from 1 – 10. Class 1 generally represents superior property fire protection while a Class 10 indicates the fire suppression system does not meet the ISO’s minimum criteria.
The city of Wildwood is one of only 2,891 communities achieving this rating out of over 47,000 jurisdictions evaluated across the country.
Insurance companies use PPC information to establish appropriate fire insurance premiums for residential and commercial properties. By securing lower fire insurance premiums for communities with better public protection, the PPC program provides incentives and rewards for communities that improve their firefighting services.
“With the help of the Commissioners of the city of Wildwood, who clearly have put forward their concerns for the safety and welfare of our residents and visitors, we have been able to improve our rating,” said Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Speigel.
“We continue to improve our operations, staff assignments, training and equipment, all in an effort to provide the very best public safety protection to our community,” said Commissioner Tony Leonetti. “The men and women of our fire department work very hard for our community and their commitment continues to show through programs such as this.”
