Wildwood Construction Office Moves to Davenport’s Control

By Lauren Suit

WILDWOOD — Commissioner Bill Davenport took over the reins of the city’s construction office Sept. 12.
But he’ll have an extra set of eyes to help him keep watch over the office.
Commissioners also voted to appoint Lisa Hare as a confidential assistant to Daven-port. Her duties will be to oversee the city’s construction office and rectify operational problems.
According to resolution, Hare’s salary will be $45,000 for this year and in 2008 will be raised to $45,900. Future annual raises will be determined by Davenport.
“With all the budget problems, I don’t see it necessary to hire a confidential assistant,” said Commissioner Gary DeMarzo. “It is just an-other person for payroll.”
City Clerk Chris Wood explained that each elected commissioner is allowed a confidential secretary or assistant that would serve within their individual budget.
“If he [Davenport] sees fit to put that person [confidential assistant] at the construction of-fice, he’s doing it by title and it is OK by the state,” Wood said.
The move of the office from the Department of Public Works, headed by Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr., to the Department of Public Safety came after Construction Official Glenn Franzoi received an update on the state administrative code, specifically regarding conflicts of interest.
According to the new amendment to state law, Troiano’s work as a masonry contractor is in conflict with his role as commissioner in charge of the construction office.
The city solicitor recommended that a switch to another department be made.
