WILDWOOD — At a “beach access event” hosted by Thunder Motorsports from Fri., July 30 to Sun., Aug. 1, Wildwood beachgoers will be offered the opportunity to temporarily park on the beach at Cresse Avenue from 10 a.m. until dusk. The rate to park is $20 per car, per day.
According to a release, a free movie will be shown at dusk on July 31, rekindling memories of drive-in movies in the heyday of doo-wop. For more information about the event, visit www.thundermoto.com.
The City will be assessing traffic patterns, set-up, and public interest in the event to determine whether expanded beach access would be feasible on a regular basis.
“This year, Wildwood’s beaches were honored as the best in South Jersey,” Mayor Gary DeMarzo said. “But there’s no denying that it’s a hike to arrive at the water. That makes it hard for families with children, the elderly, and those who are just plain hot or tired. If Thunder Motorsports’ beach access event goes well, the City will seriously consider offering expanded beach access on weekends—maybe even daily.”
“Expanded beach access will support our ADA policies and open public spaces for everyone to enjoy,” City Administrator Dale Goodreau remarked. “This sort of activity really moves the city forward.”
“The state has been very helpful in allowing the City of Wildwood to maximize its beach resources, resulting not only in more opportunity for the public to enjoy the beaches but also creating the possibility of some additional revenues that will help offset taxes,” Commissioner Ed Harshaw explained.
Wildwood is committed to keeping things ‘cool’ for beachgoers, the release stated.
