WILDWOOD — The Wildwood City Fire Department has been notified that they have been awarded a grant under the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.
The grant awarded is in the amount of $464,762 and will be used to purchase a new fire engine. The new engine will replace two older engines, a 1969 Mack and 1981 Mack, which suffered damage during Hurricane Sandy.
The last grant awarded to the department was in 2011 for $352,000 to purchase Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and radios, both of which were becoming obsolete.
Chief Daniel Speigel stated “Without the grants we’ve been awarded through FEMA the possibility of us being able to make these purchases to protect our firefighters and the citizens we serve would be nearly impossible”.
“The City of Wildwood is always appreciative of any funding filtered to our agencies from the federal government and we appreciate all the time and work put into the grant writing process by our employees” said Commissioner of Public Safety Tony Leonetti.
Sea Isle City – I miss the Nativity scene they used to display outside the historic St. Joseph’s church on Landis Avenue! It was a true reminder of the reason for the season!
