WEST WILDWOOD — According to a notice from Borough Clerk James Nanos, a special recall election has been scheduled for Pearl Harbor Day. While not as momentous as that date in 1941, for local residents this Dec. 7 will likely also live in infamy.
On that day, voters will decide whether they want Mayor Herbert Frederick and Commissioner Gerard McNamara to represent them on the governing body or other candidates that have yet to be determined. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Petitions to run for the two vacancies are available in the clerk’s office in Borough Hall at 701 Glenwood Avenue. Potential candidates have until Tue., Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. to file their petitions, which need 25 signatures. According to the notice, candidates must also file campaign manager affidavits and their slogans, which must not exceed six words.
On Oct. 21 at noon, ballot positions will be drawn in the clerk’s office.
West Wildwood residents interested in voting in the election have until Nov. 17 to register.
Fredericks and McNamara recently dropped court challenges to recall attempts against them by separate recall committees that gathered signatures to have them removed from office. In February, the court blocked a scheduled recall election of Frederick because its planning was flawed.
