West Wildwood Buys New Body Armor For Officers

WEST WILDWOOD– Mayor Herbert Frederick announces the new purchase of six individual body armor vests for the Boroughs police officers.
The new vests were purchased through a combination of grant money and funds allocated for the improvement and upgrade of equipment for the Borough’s police department. The vests that the officers presently have are approaching the end of their life expectancy and were a priority to replace.
Commissioner Gerard McNamara said that the protection of those who are charged with protecting the Borough’s residents are a top priority. “We take great pride in our police and volunteer fire departments and want the best possible equipment for both.”
McNamara also noted that there is presently upgrades for access to the fire department building planned with new curbing and street work that will permit a quicker and safer response by the fire department.
The Borough’s police department presently has five full-time officers and two Class II officers.
