AVALON – Borough Council held its March 25 meeting by teleconference, adhering to state recommendations concerning the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
One item that gained approval was a contract with V-COMM, a telecommunications enginceering firm, to develop a plan for the distribution of small technology in the borough. The proactive effort is in response to rapid increases in 5G infrastructure deployment by cellular providers.
State and federal regulations are making it easier for providers to implement small cell technology deployment plans in municipalities without the normal levels of local government approvals. The borough wants to develop and approve a plan for the infrastructure’s deployment to exert some control over implementation by providers, in ways that maintain the safety and character of the borough.
The borough expects a plan for governing body approval by Labor Day. Plan development costs are not to exceed $24,000.
