COURT HOUSE – Two female snow leopards were born at the Cape May County Zoo May 19.
On the morning of July 18, members of the media were invited to view the new cubs in their habitat, as they are just getting old enough to leave their nest, according to a release.
The cubs were born to first-time parents ‘Tysa,’ a 4-year-old female from Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Wichita, Kan., and ‘Bataar,’ a 9-year-old male from Bronx Zoo.
This marks the zoo’s fifth litter of snow leopard cubs and the first litter since 2013. The cubs will be visible in the brand new Walter H. Trettin Snow Leopard Habitat, located at the front of the zoo.
The zoo is asking the public to help name the cubs. Names being considered are ‘Zara,’ ‘Samaira,’ and ‘Ahana.’ Visitors to the zoo can cast their vote at a box located outside the leopard habitat.
With only 12 snow leopards born in North American zoos in 2015, this pair of female cubs is critically important to the success of the SSP (Species Survival Plan) breeding program.

Cape May County – Why don't we have a local TV station in South Jersey? We had channel 40 in Linwood and that's gone. Maybe because it highlighted real news at times!! With all due respect to the Cape May…
