Waste Disposal Amended

By Camille Sailer

SEA ISLE CITY – At its Feb. 13 meeting, Sea Isle City Council unanimously voted to introduce an amendment to its current provisions regarding sewer and water regulations to prohibit the improper disposal of waste and penalties for failure to comply. “These new provisions are something that the state is requiring and so we are following their direction,” said Business Administrator George Savastano. “We agree that the ordinance will keep our groundwater and wastewater clean.” Exceptions to the ordinance include run-off from car washing and landscaping water, residual salt and de-icing if properly rinsed with clean water, and residential pool discharge. Possible penalties for violation of ordinance provisions range from $100 to $1,000. The measure will be open for public comment and final adoption at the March 12 council meeting at 10 a.m.
