WASP Pilot to Close Lecture Series

ERMA — Lillian Lorraine Yonally, WW II WASP Pilot (Women Air Force Service Pilot) will close out Naval Air Station Wildwood’s 2010 Historic Lecture Series on Wed., Aug, 11 at 7 p.m.
The lecture will also feature a color slide show comprised of WW II era photos from Yonally’s personal collection. The lecture and slide show is free to the public and will be held at historic Hangar No. 1 located at the Cape May Airport.
Yonally and other surviving WASP’s were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal by President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and members of Congress on March 10. WASP’s were the first women in history to fly American military aircraft freeing male pilots for combat service.
Come learn the inspirational story of these brave women. Thirty-Eight WASP pilots were killed while flying more than 60 million miles ferrying fighters, bombers and other aircraft to aid the war effort.
Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is located in Historic Hangar No. 1 at the Cape May Airport, New Jersey. The museum is dedicated to the 42 airmen who perished while training at Naval Air Station Wildwood between 1943 and 1945.
