Von Savage Resigns as County GOP Chairman

By Herald Staff

WEST CAPE MAY — David Von Savage, chairman of the Cape May County Regular Republican Organization, has resigned.
According to 98.7 The Coast, GOP sources informed WCZT/WFNE on Thur., June 10 that Von Savage would leave the post that he’s held for 14 years.
The Coast reported that Von Savage’s leadership was at stake during this week’s republican primary election when he backed incumbent Ralph Bakley and John McCann for free holder; and the opposing ticket or Freeholder Gerald Thornton and Susan Sheppard won by a wide margin.
Below is a copy of Von Savage’s statement:
It has been an honor to have represented the Cape May County Regular Republican Organization as Chairman for the past fourteen years. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to have worked with our Republican leaders, committee people, elected officials and constituents.
I am proud of our organization’s record in helping to elect officials who have worked hard to earn the designation of top rural county in the entire nation, while consistently maintaining the lowest tax rate in the state.
The Primary Election is over and I fully support Freeholder Thorton and Ocean City Council President and Republican Freeholder nominee Sheppard in their candidacy in the General Election.
In the best interests of the Party, I have decided to move on and not seek another term for Chairman. I congratulate all those who won this past Tuesday and wish them the very best.
