AVALON – Avalon Borough Council sat silent as a resident asked for video recordings of governing body meetings Aug. 14.
The issue has been raised repeatedly for over a year, with resident, Martha Wright, taking on the task. Wright video records council meetings and posts them to a website for general access.
Travis Marshall, a local real estate professional, filled in for Wright, recording the council meeting with a smartphone. Marshall used public comment to urge council to support video access for residents who can’t attend.
Marshall cited a Herald article that reported on the potential expansion of video access to municipal meetings in neighboring Stone Harbor. Avalon officials have maintained that there is no widespread public support for video access to council meetings.
