VIDEO: Grass Dying on Bennett’s Crossing Field

By Jack Fichter

ERMA — Just when it appeared all problems were solved with playing fields at the Bennett’s Crossing Recreation Area, grass is dying on the football field.
Albrecht and Heun, of Court House, was hired by Lower Township at a cost of nearly $600,000 to regrade the playing fields with additional soil and solve the flooding problems.
Last March, council approved a $660,000 bond to purchase dirt to fill in playing fields. At that point, the recreational project was over two years behind schedule and more than $1 million over budget bringing the total cost over $4 million.
Councilman Glenn Douglass is calling the football field a “disaster” while Lower Township Mayor Walter Craig promised the grass problem will be solved at no cost to taxpayers.
