CAPE MAY – U.S. Rep. Jefferson Van Drew, (D-2nd) Assemblyman R. Bruce Land, (D-1st) and approximately 20 veterans and members of the Atlantic County Veterans Advisory Board received a tour of U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, Station Cape May, and the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Rollin Fritch, April 13.
Members from Training Center Cape May, Station Cape May, Coast Guard Cutter Rollin Fritch, and Auxiliarists from Flotilla 8-2 provided an in-depth tour covering topics ranging from Coast Guard history to current missions.
“The Atlantic County Veterans Advisory Board is beyond grateful for the opportunity to learn about, and observe, the most unique branch of the military and the heroes that contribute to our economic, national, and border security,” said Michael Schenck, a member of the ACVAB. “Furthermore, we are greatly honored that Congressman Van Drew is attending. He is a great friend to the participants on this trip; veterans, family members of veterans, and future veterans.”
“We are proud to have had the opportunity to showcase Coast Guard Training Center Cape May and the various operational units stationed here to Congressman Van Drew and the veterans who attended the tour,” stated Capt. Owen Gibbons, commanding officer of Coast Guard Training Center Cape May. “The congressman’s advocacy at the highest levels of government is incredibly important to maintaining a ready, relevant and responsive service.”
The ACVAB, which consists of members from Atlantic County and veterans themselves, helps to ensure that county governments remain responsive to the needs of veterans and their families.
