Van Drew Joins Task Force on Rural Broadband

U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-2nd)

By Press Release

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew (D-2nd) joined the new House Task Force on Rural Broadband chaired by House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn. The task force has set the goal to bring affordable, high-speed internet access to all Americans by 2025.
According to a release, there are large parts of America that are so rural they do not have access to high-speed internet access.
Some of those places, called “digital deserts,” if they have access, it is costly and unreliable.
According to the Federal Communications Commission, more than 25 million Americans lack high-speed internet access, but there is evidence that the number is much higher.
“We know that high-speed internet service should be affordable and accessible to all Americans, no matter where they live. But there are so many rural places across American that face a disadvantage during this information age. South Jersey has many rural communities and as their Representative I want to be sure that they have access to world-class high-speed internet. That is why I joined the new Task Force on Rural Broadband,” stated Van Drew.
The task force will consult with key stakeholders, including rural advocates, market participants, local governments, and administration officials to develop strategies to eliminate digital deserts and ensure rural Americans can thrive in the 21st century information economy.
