Van Drew Announces 3 More Grants for South Jersey Fire Stations

U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-2nd)

By Press Release

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew (D-2nd) announced the award of the competitive Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) totaling $194.290 to fire stations in New Jersey’s Second Congressional District.
According to a release, the award will be split between three fire departments throughout the district in South Jersey.
The funding announcement includes $125,243 to the Green Creek Volunteer Fire Company, $56,667 to the City of Ocean City (Inc.), and $12,381 to the Absecon Fire Company 1.
“The AFG program continues to help our first responders in South Jersey to get the protective equipment and training they need. Our first responders perform invaluable work for their community each day,” stated Van Drew. “I thank the first responders for all they do for their communities in South Jersey.”
The AFG Program is a component of the larger, coordinated effort to strengthen the nation’s overall level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire and related hazards.
The grant is organized by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. It has awarded $7.1 billion to first-responder organizations to obtain emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, as well as firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training.
The FY 2018 AFG Program will award another $315 million to first-responder organizations that need support to improve their capability to respond to fires and emergencies of all types.
The recent grants makes seven that Van Drew announced for the first responders of South Jersey, building on four grant awards announced Sept. 12.
Previous funding announcements include $225,805 to the Borough of Penns Grove, $66,666.66 to Board of Fire Commissioners of Commercial Township, $107,476.19 to Dorothy Volunteer Fire Company, and $35.485.71 to the City of North Wildwood.
