COURT HOUSE – Senator Jeff Van Drew and Assemblyman Sgt. Bob Andrzejczak announced that they will continue their aggressive plan to combat the dangers of traveling on Route 47.
To date they have:
• Met with Acting Commissioner of the Department of Transportation Joseph Bertoni outlining the issues on the roadway. Speed limit evaluations, evaluation of rumble strips on shoulders of the roadway, increasing no passing zones, signage demarcation for areas of the roadway (i.e.: dangerous curve ahead, traffic signal ahead).
• Assembled a meeting with Samantha DeGarlia (Aunt of Jeffrey Natale who was killed on Route 47 April 24, 2014), Chief of Police Chris Leusner (Middle Township), and State Police Commander Lt. Doug Pearson (Woodbine Barracks). For the purpose of increasing enforcement and surveillance of the dangerous areas along Highway 47. Leusner and Pearson agreed to work together to accomplish that goal.
• Separately met with Samantha DeGarlia and the parents of Jeffrey Natale to coordinate efforts to put forward a petition drive to make the road safer.
“I am pleased that Chief Leusner and Commander Pearson were so willing to aggressively increase enforcement and surveillance along Route 47. Regardless of how many traffic mechanisms you in place without enforcement they are ineffective. I am also pleased that Acting Commissioner Bertoni was willing to meet with me so quickly and understood the seriousness of the issue and was receptive to many of the ideas put before him. Finally, I look forward to a vigorous petition drive working with the Natale family who has inspired us all to move forward with making this road safer. I am not going to rest on this issue until I see actual results. The families who have lost their loved ones will never rest and the least we can do is stand up and fight for them,” stated Van Drew.
“We can’t tolerate the constant carnage and loss of life on this extremely dangerous road. We must continue to pursue any and all possible cures to this extremely dangerous situation. At the very least we owe our commitment to the families who have lost their loved ones. I know we can do better and make this road safer,” said Andrzejczak.
They have previously announced:
• The traffic light at Route 47 and Fulling Mill Road will be operating this summer.
• The process for placing rumble strips center of the roadway will begin this fall.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
