UPPER TOWNSHIP – The Upper Township Economic Development Commission (UTEDC) recently conducted an online survey to receive feedback from residents and businesses regarding potential new initiatives for the township.
The survey consisted of four multiple-choice questions and an open-ended question, and was open from Nov. 1 through Nov. 30. A total of 292 participants responded in the multiple-choice section, and 209 participants responded to the open-ended question.
Results reported that:
- More than 50% of participants were in support of more development of shopping and dining opportunities in Marmora and Seaville.
- Nearly 86% of participants responded in favor of recreational bike path development and increased access to the township’s recreational waters.
- Ninety percent of participants responded in favor of Exit 20 (Routes 9 & 50) being developed into a full interchange with access from Garden State Parkway South and access to Garden State Parkway North.
- In terms of growth and/or change in Upper Township (such as size/population or commercial activity), approximately 36% felt very positive, 29% felt somewhat positive, 16% responded neutral, and 19% felt somewhat or very negatively about it.
Survey participants were also asked what they thought were Upper Township’s three most valuable assets. The most commented on asset choices ranged from “small town feel,” school system/teachers, ecotourism, and recreational facilities, to low crime rates, reasonable taxes, and township services (EMS/Fire).
“After compiling this community feedback, we are better equipped to make recommendations for Upper Township’s long-term strategic economic development plan,” said UTEDC Chairwoman Susan Adelizzi-Schmidt.
