BEESLEY’S POINT – During public comment at Upper Township’s Committee meeting Oct. 9, a resident who lives on Harbor Road at Beesley’s Point asked Mayor Richard Palombo to address “rumors” that have been circulating regarding the parking area at that location. “We’ve seen surveyors around and there are now surveyor stakes in the marshland, several of which abut my property,” he said. Engineer Paul Dietrich replied, “We have county Open Space money to fix up the parking lot and have a consultant-engineer working on design ideas that will provide a paved parking area for 61 spaces, including 14 spaces for boats, a pavilion, a bike fix-it station, and bathrooms. There is no plan at all to expand beyond the existing footprint of the current parking lot and go beyond what is currently there already, give or take five to 10 feet.” Deputy Mayor Edward Barr added that with the Great Egg Harbor Bridge construction finishing up by summer, the idea is to make this gateway into the county as attractive as possible and utilize the existing space.
