PETERSBURG – Upper Township Committee approved its 2018 $13.14 -million budget April 9. “This is the same exact budget as we introduced a few weeks ago and that has been discussed at four budget workshops open to the public. Because of additional revenue we identified from 2017, we were able to take down the increase year over year slightly more so it is about a 1.1-penny increase to the tax rate per $100 of assessed property value,” explained Committee member John Coggins, who is responsible for revenue and finance. That would bring the new municipal tax rate to .182 cents per $100 of assessed value. In response to a citizen question, Coggins noted that over the last three years, the budget increase had averaged about 1 percent. It was also clarified that on Nov. 1, any adjustments to the budget could be made by transferring sums from one line item to another.
