PETERSBURG – The Upper Township Committee on Aug. 27 honored Eagle Scout Thomas Castaldi with a resolution and presentation for his attaining the designation of Eagle Scout.
To reach Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts, scouts must complete an Eagle project, one that serves the community and is of a scale that requires inspiring and organizing.
Castaldi involved troop members, family, friends, and received support from local veterans’ organizations. His project took old and broken bicycles and rebuilt them into functioning bicycles and then donated them to a local church, St. Casimir in Woodbine.
The reconditioned bicycles were given to children in the church’s service area. Many of them were distributed around Christmas.
During the presentation Mayor Richard Palombo said attaining the rank of Eagle Scout “is a great accomplishment.” Only 2 percent of all Scouts attain the rank of Eagle. Family members and representatives of the American Legion and VFW posts were present to see Castaldi honored.
