PETERSBURG – Jack Griffin, the new president of the Upper Township Business Association, asked Upper Township Committee members at their Jan. 14 meeting to consider the effects of any detours associated with the upcoming Route 50 bridge improvements.
“Any businesses which are still operating are survivors and we want to do all that we can to make sure they stay open and continue to grow,” said Griffin. “We’ve learned that for the Route 50 bridge work a detour will take traffic down Tyler Road and possibly bypass businesses on Route 50 as well as at the Seaville Shopping Center. We need to make sure that this detour doesn’t take an adverse toll on their business.”
Mayor Richard Palombo explained, “Our priority is safety along Tyler Road for residents because this road already sees its share of accidents. And we want to make sure as well that no business suffers, and it’s my understanding from a prior meeting with the state that they fully understand our priorities.
“The suggestion of signage that businesses are open and accessible is a good one and we’ll make sure the state knows this. We’re looking at probably two summers of construction so this is important and we want to do the right things for our residents and businesses.”
