By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Through the course of the Garden State Parkway Overpass Project numerous meetings have been called with Joe Johnson of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, Bob Scancella, Resident Engineer, Deputy Mayor Lockwood and Township Administrator Connie Mahon to discuss issues that local residents have brought to our attention.
At the most recent meeting, some outstanding items were discussed. Those items include the request for increased plantings to buffer noise and light in the area of Orbit Drive and Bennett Avenues, drainage issues near Bennett Avenue, speeding issues along Brighton Avenue, and additional signage and safety concerns along the east service road. Other areas of concern that were reported include the northbound on ramp at Stone Harbor Boulevard that passes Stone Harbor Landing, and the intersection at Shellbay Avenue and Bayberry Drive. Still “works in progress,” these areas and related concerns will continue to be addressed during follow-up meetings.
Updates were given on the installation of rubberized asphalt top coat to mitigate noise. It was reported that the top coat installation will occur over the next three to four weeks. It has been stated since the beginning of the project that a noise study will take place upon completion. At that time, the Turnpike Authority will determine if additional noise reduction measures are necessary. It was also agreed that upon completion of the project, the entire area of the project will be reviewed to determine if additional trees are required in sparsely planted areas.
At Deputy Mayor Lockwood’s request, another meeting will be held in approximately six weeks to further follow up on outstanding items and report on progress. According to Deputy Mayor Lockwood, “The Turnpike Authority is genuinely committed to listening to all concerns voiced by our taxpayers and take corrective action as required.”
Work on both the Garden State Parkway and Route 9 paving projects is being performed by South State Inc.  A recent conference call regarding the Route 9 project confirmed that another coat of asphalt or “lift” will be put down. After final paving is complete, the contractor will address any areas that may need work done to improve transitions at private drives and public intersections.
“Ongoing communication and a good working relationship with the relevant authorities has been and will continue to be key in wrapping up the projects’ loose ends and addressing concerns,” said Lockwood. “The continued meetings have been very productive and have resulted in many positive changes to the project.”
