UPDATED: Lower Township Volunteers Sod Baseball Field

By Herald Staff

ERMA – Twenty volunteers placed sod on the infield of the baseball field at Freeman Douglass Park at Bennett’s Crossing, Sat., Oct. 15.
Deputy Mayor Kevin Lare said the infield had never received sod even though it was part of the original design of the park.
“Those of you who have played or do play baseball know that if you have a dirt infield with aluminum bats, that can be a dangerous combination,” he said. “We got a whole tractor trailer full of sod donated, we had all the topsoil donated, we had the irrigation parts donated, had the labor donated.”
Lare said the township’s Public Works Department prepared the field, taking the infield fill dirt out and placed and graded the topsoil.
“We have a tremendous baseball facility now for the kids,” he said.
Lare said he would acknowledge the donors at council’s next meeting.
