2013 Flu Vaccination Clinics
The Department of Health will be offering many types of flu clinics this year and several clinic dates are already set. To keep up to date on all of the County’s flu clinics, check the website at www.cmchealth.net or call the flu hotline at 463-6581.
Special Senior High-Dose Flu & Pneumonia Clinics: The high-dose flu vaccine and the pneumonia vaccine will be offered at special senior clinics. The high-dose vaccine is a flu vaccine licensed only for seniors. It is available at no cost for persons who have the following insurance as their primary payer: Medicare Part B, Aetna, CIGNA, Coventry, Humana, Medicare Railroad, Three Rivers, United Healthcare, and United Mine Workers of America. The standard-dose flu vaccine is also available for free, regardless of insurance coverage. The pneumonia vaccine is available for $15 (cash or check). Please bring your Medicare cards and supplemental insurance cards to the clinic. Consent forms for the high-dose flu vaccine are only available onsite. High-dose flu vaccine will be offered on the following dates and locations:
• October 1, 1-3 p.m.

• October 8, 9-11 a.m.
Ocean City Senior Center, 1735 Simpson Avenue, Ocean City
• October 23, 2-6 p.m.

Drive-through and Prevent the Flu! The Department of Health will hold its popular free drive-through flu clinic for residents 14 years and older on Oct. 6 from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Kindle Ford Autoplaza in CMCH. For everyone’s safety, completed consent forms are required. Forms can be downloaded at cmchealth.net, they are available at the Department of Health, and they will be in local newspapers the week before the drive-through clinic. Please wear a short-sleeved shirt and for the safety of our staff, leave your pets at home. If you need assistance with transportation to get to the drive-through clinic, call Fare Free Transportation at 889-3700.
Children and Families Clinics: Children and Families clinics are for all kids older than 6 months of age and their families! While supplies last, the FluMist nasal spray will also be offered at these clinics. As a reminder, kids less than 5 years of age in daycare or preschool must get vaccinated against the flu each year to attend school after December. Children and Families clinics are now scheduled on the following dates and locations:

• Oct. 23, 2-6 p.m.

For all County flu clinics, if you have a severe allergy to eggs, other vaccine component, or if you have been told by a doctor that you have had Guillain-Barré syndrome, you need to receive the flu vaccine from your personal physician. If you have a severe allergy to Thimerosal, you can receive the vaccine from the Department of Health, but not at the drive-through clinic.

Crest Haven Celebrates 60 Years
The Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is celebrating its 60th Anniversary with an Open House that will include tours and demonstrations of the various programs and services provided at the center. The Open House will be held on Oct. 3, and will run from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Crest Haven facility, located at 12 Moore Road, Cape May Court House. The Open House will serve to mark not only their 60th anniversary but to give the public an opportunity to visit the center and learn about the expanded health care programs available.
Staff will be on hand to explain the many programs and services currently available at Crest Haven, such as speech, occupational and physical therapy. Information about other services offered at the facility will be distributed with health care professional available to answer questions. Vendors representing other countywide health care organizations will be in the main recreation area during the open house. The public is encouraged to attend this free open house and learn about the services available through Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Refreshments will be served.

Calling All Arts and History Teachers!
All local elementary, middle-school, high school and post-secondary arts & history teachers are invited to Tea for Teachers. Come enjoy complimentary tea, light sandwiches and baked goods at this informal event on Oct. 9, 2013 at 4 p.m. at the Beesley House. The Division seeks to open a dialogue to learn about your needs, provide resources & contacts for curriculum development & support and increase student involvement in local arts & history programs & events outside of the classroom. The Beesley House is located at 605 Route 9 North, Cape May Court House (next to the Cape May County Park and Zoo).

Senior Day in the Park
Freeholder Kristine Gabor and the Department of Aging and Disability Services will be hosting a “Senior Day in the Park” on Oct. 10 from 10 a.m.to 1 p.m. at the Cape May County Park and Zoo located on Route 9 North in Cape May Court House, New Jersey. This event is planned as a day away from the Centers and an opportunity for participants to meet with representatives from the Department of Aging and Area Plan Contract providers.
This event is for current senior center participants, please sign-up at your senior center.

Second Special Forum, “Giving a Voice to Addiction”
Freeholder Kristine Gabor will continue the dialogue on addiction that the County started with the first forum – “Putting a Face on Addiction” on Sept. 5, 2013. The County will be holding a second forum, “Giving a Voice to Addiction,” on Oct. 10 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the County Administration Building, 4 Moore Road, Cape May Court House, New Jersey.
The county wants to hear from families and those suffering from addiction, specifically in these areas:
• What barriers did you face to getting treatment?
• What should be included in a treatment program?
• What would you like to see in recovery?
The Public is invited to attend this forum. There will be an opportunity for 25 people to sign-up to speak during this session. However, everyone in attendance will have the opportunity to submit comments.

Storming for the Vote – Hurricane Sandy Anniversary Lunch Time Program
Cape May County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti and the League of Women Voters of Cape May County will jointly present “Storming for the Vote: Hurricane Sandy and The Election,” a powerful 20 minute documentary by the League of Women Voters of New Jersey about Hurricane Sandy’s impact on the 2012 Presidential Election in New Jersey.
This film illustrates how New Jersey voters, election officials, the League and a myriad volunteers came together to make possible the Nov. 6, 2012 General Election. It is a testament to the great spirit of the New Jersey voter to get out to exercise our precious right to vote, even in the most extreme circumstances.
The public is invited to attend this free program which will take place on the first anniversary of Hurricane Sandy touching down in Cape May County on Oct. 29, 2013 at 12:10 p.m.in the Story Time Room at the Main Branch of the Cape May County Library, Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House. Attendees are encouraged to bring a “brown bag lunch” to enjoy during the program. Beverages and desserts will be provided. The program will conclude at 12:45 p.m. to allow time for attendees to get back to work or home.

Community Disabilities Awareness Day Event
Cape May County will host its 5th Annual Community Disabilities Awareness Day on Nov. 16 in Avalon from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Avalon Elementary School. This event is designed as a day of information, food, music and fun not only for people with disabilities but for all who are interested in the agencies and organizations that serve the citizens of Cape May County.
Admission is free and refreshments will be provided. Fare Free Transportation will be available to county residents who reserve a ride by November 8th. Also, a Kids Corner is planned, with activities to entertain the children so their parents can speak with and collect disability-related information from the 55 plus exhibitors expected. Exhibitors will include representatives from local and state service agencies, civic organizations, support groups, and commercial vendors specializing in products and services of particular interest to people with disabilities, their families and caregivers.
