WILDWOOD CREST — In a seaside community how many watercrafts parked on a residential property constitutes too many? Bill Hoeger, a resident of Atlantic Avenue, addressed his concern about the number of watercraft parked on a neighboring property during the Wildwood Crest Commissioners’ meeting on Wed., July 20.
“Is there an ordinance as to the amount of watercraft parked on a property?” Hoeger asked the board. He told the commissioners that during the winter months, a property near his home has 22 watercrafts stored for the winter; 17 jet skis and 2 boats.
“The person living there has five jet skis stored there now,” added Hoeger. “I just don’t think it’s right on a residential street.”
The commissioners were not sure if such an ordinance exists. “I will look into it and get back to you,” said Mayor Karl Groon.
In a follow-up conversation with the Herald, Borough Administrator Kevin Yecco noted that the parking of watercraft is a Title 39 issue and has been referred to the borough’s chief of police. All of New Jersey motor vehicle statutes fall under Title 39.
The commissioners also gave the nod to the first reading of Ordinance 1131. This ordinance calls for the appropriation of $1.49 million and authorized the bond issuance of $1.41 million bonds and notes for the borough for “various improvements or the purposes to finance the costs thereof.”
According to Yecco, a number of items are included in that ordinance including $165,000 for an equipped 2011 ambulance; $120,000 to be used to replace the storm sewer piped on Cresse Avenue between Lake Avenue and Park Avenue and $857,000 for sanitary sewer pipes and storm drains on Heather Avenue from New Jersey Avenue through Atlantic Avenue.
This ordinance will be read again, for its second and final reading, at the next commissioners meeting on August 10 at 9:30 a.m. in City Hall.
