CREST HAVEN – The Route 50 Bridge over Tuckahoe River had all its concrete beams placed in one overnight closing, according to Cape May County Engineer Dale Foster in a report to freeholders June 28.
Because of that progress, there will be no more overnight bridge closures.
As directed by the board, Foster had, May 26, sent a letter to the Department of Transportation. It worked, apparently, since Foster said he received a conference call last week from the governor’s office and DOT.
More State Police personnel will be available to direct traffic, which may ease some of the gridlock grief felt by motorists at the Routes 50 and 49 intersection.
Foster said the DOT will continue with its original plan to close the southbound lane on Route 50 on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There had been “some talk” of adding a Friday night shift, but Atlantic County objected.
At Head of the River, the detour “gets quite a bit jammed up during busy travel hours,” said Foster.
Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton said he had received a message from Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D-2nd) who had spoken with the DOT commissioner about the situation. He was told they (DOT) would “try to make it better, but not good.”
Thornton said the agency was “going out of their way to make it better.”
Cape May County – I’d like to suggest to the Herald that they leverage spout offs draw and replace some of the ads for their paper with a few paid ads that you probably can charge a little extra for. Lots of people…
