DENNISVILLE – Dennis Township Mayor Zeth Matalucci received a response Sept. 15 from County Engineer Robert Church referring to committee’s detailing of the urgent necessity for traffic calming measures to be implemented along the newly paved section of Corson’s Tavern Road (C.R. 628).
Church responded, “This week the county has installed two Pace Radar feedback digital speed display units along CR 628 at either end of the residential neighborhood. The display units are solar powered and provide the speed the vehicle is traveling. The display is equipped with a strobe light that will be initiated when someone travels above the programmed speed.
“The display unit has a high-visibility screen that is programmable as well. Next week, we will attempt to program the screen to read ‘Violation’ when a motorist travels above the posted speed.”
Church continued by listing several other measures the county has taken or plans to take: “We have already completed turning maneuver counts at the intersection of Main Street and Corson’s Tavern Road. As personnel become available, we will continue with the speed surveys of Main Street, Corson’s Tavern Road and Kings Highway. We are awaiting crash data from the police for Main Street and Corson’s Tavern Roads … [and then] our traffic consultant can complete their study concerning the no-passing zone change request and the speed reduction requests.
“Sometime this fall, the county will have our striping subcontractor install the text ‘REDUCE SPEED AHEAD’ on the paving at either side of the residential neighborhood.”
Matalucci supported by committee campaigned vigorously for an improvement in the speeding situation along Corson’s Tavern Road and residents attended committee meetings to encourage Dennis to prod the county on action as the Herald reported in recent weeks.
