Township Receives Positive Assessment at Davies Sports Complex

COURT HOUSE — Middle Township officials received a microbial assessment report from an environmental firm that was charged with completing a mold assessment at the Clarence Davies Sports Complex on Goshen Road. The report was delivered to the Township March 14 and was provided by Quality Air Specialists, Inc. of Somerdale, New Jersey. The investigation and report was initiated due to a concern expressed by a Township employee.
“We are very pleased with the immediate attention provided to the Davies Complex by our Public Works Director Rob Flynn who provided oversight of this important assessment project”, said Middle Township Mayor Tim Donohue. “We recognize that our residents deservedly expect a clean and healthy environment for indoor recreation. We took the necessary steps ensure the safety of visitors at our recreation facility and to educate ourselves on how we can do better.”
The microbial assessment was conducted by Quality Air Specialists’ team March 6. The inspection of the Davies Sports Complex resulted in no visible mold or moldy odors detected inside offices located at the Complex. Block masonry walls were measured with a Tramex moisture meter and found to be dry with 0% moisture content. Carpet tiles were measured and found to be dry with no elevated moisture wicking up from the slab. There was no evidence of water intrusion and no known water problems, past or present. Office and lobby areas were monitored for airborne particulate concentrations and for carbon monoxide; all were found to be within acceptable guidelines.
The report indicates a physical inspection and the laboratory results do not indicate a mold contamination problem in offices located at the Complex. The report also clearly outlines some action items that the Township can take to reduce Asthma triggers at the Complex, including but not limited to:
-Elimination of all chemical air fresheners and scented products, and implementing a procedure of using “green” products to clean floors, instead of bleach.
-A thorough cleaning of through the wall HVAC units, with the replacement of any rotted/decaying wood that may be found in the area.
-Clean HVAC filters more frequently (i.e. every two months) and cleaning one office top to bottom with environmentally friendly “green” products.
“The Township received this favorable report and will implement all of the suggestions to provide a cleaner environment”, Donohue said. “As a result of this proactive measure under Mr. Flynn’s professional guidance, Township facilities will be less likely to develop mold issues and will be cleaner as a result.”
