COURT HOUSE – April 27: Today’s report from the Cape May County Department of Health announced two new fatalities and 13 new confirmed cases.
The fatalities were a 65-year-old female, from Dennis Township, and a 92-year-old man, from Lower Township. Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton called the new deaths “another reminder that protection of our community is critical.”
The additional 13 confirmed cases bring the county spread to a new threshold, with 302 total cases, of which 190 are active. The single largest increase in new cases was in Woodbine, with six. Deaths now total 20, and 92 individuals have recovered sufficiently to be moved off quarantine.
Many of the island communities are now without active cases, including Avalon, Cape May City, Cape May Point, Sea Isle City, Stone Harbor, and West Wildwood.
The state announced today that hospitalizations have declined for the sixth consecutive day, and stand at 6,402. Just two weeks ago, on April 14, hospitalizations peaked at 8,293. The state deaths attributed to COVID-19 rose by 106, to a total of 6,044.
