NORTH WILDWOOD – City Council’s April 5 meeting began with Councilperson Kellyann Tolomeo’s request that residents participate in the Chrissy Tolomeo Memorial Walk scheduled to begin April 23 at 9:30 a.m. beginning at 15th and Boardwalk.
Tolomeo explained that this event is part of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention; its mission is to “Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide.” Tolomeo added that next to veterans, college students have the highest rate of suicide.
Tolomeo suffered the loss of her 20-year-old daughter to suicide, and she hopes that this walk, which raises money through sponsored donations, will be a success. The foundation uses funds raised to finance counselors who visit schools after a tragedy and also local scholarships.
She also wanted everyone to know that there will be a fundraiser held at Keenan’s that evening to raise money for this cause.
Other Business
In other business, the city passed an ordinance that raises ambulance and rescue service fees charged by the Fire Department.
This increase to $650 per response aligns North Wildwood with surrounding municipalities that had higher fee schedules until now.
Another ordinance increased membership of the Tourist Development Commission from five to seven members. Yet another ordinance amended an earlier one to add certain definitions to that law regarding flood damage prevention claims for affected residents. All three ordinances passed unanimously.
Council also passed a resolution awarding a contract for “2014 Street and Utility Reconstruction” to Asphalt Paving Systems.
This project will begin at Fifth Avenue and extends to 15th Avenue in the area of Ocean and Surf avenues, and includes improvements such as shower facilities, and repairs to the bike path that is damaged.
Some work will begin immediately and be completed by June; other phases will be completed after the season.
