COURT HOUSE – Patching can no longer postpone the inevitable. Middle Township passed an emergency contract resolution Nov. 5 to replace the roof of Municipal Hall at a cost not to exceed $151,544.
At a February meeting, township officials discussed the possibility of replacing the municipal building. At that time, Business Administrator Elizabeth Terenik spoke on the limitations of the building complex.
Police Chief Christopher Leusner also discussed problems which the current facility presents for a department with 53 sworn officers along with the associated staff and equipment.
Municipal court officials also pointed to overcrowding concerns.
A $5,000 contract was awarded to an architectural firm to investigate options for the renovation or replacement of the facility. At that time the township held off on the roof replacement, hoping that patching might work.
