WILDWOOD — This city’s first effort at video streaming its commission meetings live was unsuccessful due to unforeseen technical difficulties.
Following the Wed., Sept. 8 meeting, Mayor Gary DeMarzo told the Herald that he hoped there weren’t too many people who stayed home thinking they’d be able to watch the commission meeting online.
That day a story in the Press of Atlantic City announced that “barring any technical difficulties, anyone with a computer and Internet access should be able to watch the regular City Commission meetings as they happen without ever leaving their homes via the city’s website.”
Wildwood meetings often draw large, standing-room-only crowds and last more than three hours, especially if there’s something particularly controversial on the printed agenda — like 24-hour alcohol service or municipal layoffs. Some of those recent hearings saw crowds of well over 100 attendees.
The convenience of viewing the meetings from home will likely be popular among many concerned citizens.
Luckily, on Sept. 8 there wasn’t anything too exciting on schedule for discussion —just some professional services contracts, change order authorizations and minor housekeeping measures. Only a couple dozen sat in attendance. If anyone stayed home to watch the meeting online, they didn’t miss much.
DeMarzo said he hoped all the bugs were worked out so that citizens can catch the next Commissioners meeting on Wed., Sept. 22. A button to click for live streaming meetings is set to be available at www.wildwoodnj.org.
Wildwood Commission meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month starting 6:30 p.m. An archive of taped meetings is also available on the city’s website.
