Technical Board Approves $15.2 Million Budget

By Al Campbell

CREST HAVEN — The Board of Education of the county Technical School District approved a $15.2-million budget Feb. 17
That proposed budget goes before the Board of School Estimate and freeholders on April 7 at 4 p.m. That meeting is concurrent with the freeholders’ meeting and will also be Student Government Day.
Of the total budget, $12.3 million is needed for current expenses, $100,000 for capital outlay, $2.2 for Special Schools, and $670,400 for Special Revenue funds.
County taxpayers will pay $7.3 million of the budget through the General Fund Tax Levy.
A $50,000 withdrawal from the capital reserve account will be used for “facility upgrades,” including heating and air conditioning, doors, windows, parking lots, and building improvements.
Tuition rates for the 2009-2010 school year will remain at the present level.
Full time tuition is $6,815 and full time special is $9,000.
Shared-time students will be $3,407, and special shared-time students will be $4,500.
The board did not select members of the Board of School Estimate. That task will be finalized at the March meeting.
