CREST HAVEN – With the passage of a resolution by freeholders June 12, Cape May County entered shared services, project management agreement with the Atlantic County Improvement Authority (ACIA) to develop a “tech village” where the former Everlon Building stood.
That structure is currently being demolished and its site cleansed of contamination from its prior uses.
The resolution addresses the site as “Retained Property No. 1.”
Lower Township has designated a part of the block where the parcel is located as an “Area in Need of Redevelopment” in accordance with state law.
The plan for the site designated the Atlantic County Improvement Authority as its “redevelopment entity.”
Under state statute, if a county such as Cape May lacks an improvement authority, it may contract with another county as a shared service.
The resolution noted that the ACIA is authorized to contract with professionals for planning, implementation, and completion of redevelopment projects. Those professionals include architects, engineers, and project managers.
By virtue of the resolution, the ACIA will conduct pre-construction activities, project initiation, construction, bid and award professional contracts, and negotiate and execute lease agreements with prospective tenants.
Clerk of the Board Elizabeth Bozzelli said construction proposals would be received July 10. She added that it is hoped the office building would be completed by spring 2019.
