VILLAS — Delaware River and Bay Authority has not been paying taxes on buildings it leases at the county airport.
Lower Township had scheduled a tax sale Monday at 10 a.m. but at a special meeting held at 9 a.m., Township Council delayed the sale. A resolution passed by council names five properties at the airport.
DRBA and the Lower Township have been at odds on the issue of paying property taxes since 2007.
Township Manager Kathy McPherson told the Herald the township taxes buildings at the airport whether the building is empty or rented.
“We have to meet with DRBA and try and come to some resolution,” she said. “They need to let us know when the tenants vacate the buildings.”
DRBA has 90 days before the tax sale is rescheduled. The authority has held the opinion it should not have to pay taxes on airport properties.
McPherson said Township Council passed resolutions in 2007 and 2008 to cancel DRBA’s property taxes.
