Symposium to Discuss Reclaiming Your Life After Violence with a Survivor

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Advisory Commission on the Status of Women will host a symposium entitled “From Victim to Survivor: Reclaiming Your Life after Violence.” The discussion will bring together professionals from law enforcement, domestic violence advocacy and a violence survivor.
Keynote speaker Drucilla Shelley is a successful financial planner, mother and a survivor. Shelley will share her story of abduction and assault and discuss the many twists and turns her plight took through the trial process. Domestic violence specialist representing the Coalition Against Rape and Abuse, Carol Reuter, will join Shelley as part of the speaker’s panel.
Freeholder Liaison E. Marie Hayes will host the symposium and offer her knowledge as a former investigator in the Cape May County Prosecutor’s office. “With concerns about abuse against women reported everyday in the media, this is a very timely discussion and open to every citizen in Cape May County,” said Hayes. “The speakers will provide important information in an effort to shed light on this often violent and sometimes deadly problem,” she added.
The symposium is open to the public free-of-charge and will take place at the Old Courthouse, located at 10 North Main Street in Cape May Court House, Oct. 3 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. For more information about the Symposium, contact the commission at (609) 463-6695 or womcomm@cape-may.nj.us
