WEST CAPE MAY – Beginning July 25, Cape May will begin providing Uniform Construction Code Services for the neighboring borough of West Cape May.
In 2017, West Cape May Mayor Pamela Kaithern was unsuccessful in her bid to maintain a seat on the borough’s three-member commission. Soon after the elections, new Mayor Carol Sabo approached city officials about a shared services agreement for construction services. Both the borough and the city passed resolutions approving such a shared services arrangement at meetings in July.
The move ended the relationship between the borough and Lower Township which had provided the services. Current open permits will continue to be reviewed and inspected by Lower Township until closed out.
The new agreement runs for four years and includes building, plumbing, electrical and fire prevention services. West Cape May retains responsibility for zoning and municipal code enforcement. All services will use the city’s existing fee schedule.
