STONE HARBOR –– Borough Engineer Marc DeBlasio updated council on several pending projects at its meeting here Dec. 16.
DeBlasio said the borough has received a Department of Transportation Roadway Improvement Grant in the amount of $160,000 for the Safe Water Main Project, to improve 99th Street, which needs underground sanitary sewer work.
Though not included in preliminary street repair plans, DeBlasio said 99th Street was added to the project. He said the borough is applying for New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Trust grants for this project and survey plans would be complete in March and construction will begin in the fall of 2009.
DeBlasio said the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) approved permits for the beach outfall elimination project. However, he said the project’s name might need to change in order to gain more grants through the United Sates Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Program before it goes out to bid in the late spring for fall construction.
A project to develop the property at 81st Street and Third Avenue has been approved by the Cape May County Planning Board and the borough has gained needed licenses except for the DEP Coastal Area Facility Review Act (CAFRA) permit for potential buildings on that site.
DeBlasio said plans to place solar panels on the roof of the Public Works Building are currently in the design stage.
