STONE HARBOR – The new Police Building in Stone Harbor is open for business. A large padlock secures the door to the former facility.
After years of discussion and some stuttering over budget limitations in the early conceptual design, the new home for the police is complete.
A contractor will begin work on renovating the first floor of the former police station. When those renovations are complete by early spring, the connection hallways will be opened, and the project will be done.
To reduce the budget demand on the borough, the total complex that will house the department includes the new facility and the renovated first floor of the old.
All public interaction with the police will occur in the new facility, which is open and ready to the delight of Police Chief Thomas Schutta.
The department has 17 full-time officers, two support staff, and makes use of special officers during the summer.
