STONE HARBOR – The Borough of Stone Harbor has launched a brand new emergency management website that will provide instant notifications and community education to the public in the event of a hurricane, storm event, or another emergent condition in the community. The url for the website is www.stoneharboremergency.com.
“One of the lessons learned during Hurricane Sandy last year was to provide immediate access to all of the latest information to the public before, during, and after a storm event”, said Stone Harbor Mayor Suzanne Walters. “A special website dedicated to emergency management has a proven track record of providing instant notification and communication with the public during a major storm event when essential information becomes available literally minute by minute”.
The new Stone Harbor Emergency Management website will provide instant notifications of all emergency conditions that exist in the Borough, including hurricanes, coastal storms, winter storms, flooding, missing persons, and any event that may endanger lives or property. Notifications will provided by the Stone Harbor Office of Emergency Management and by the Stone Harbor Office of Public Information. Each time a new notice is issued, it will appear at the top of the front page of the emergency website.
The website also includes other essential information for the public including trusted media sources, links to Borough, County and State emergency websites, real time weather conditions and tide information, and explanations of storm events. The website also contains and important educational component with tips on preparing for an emergency and how to safely evacuate when an evacuation order is given.
“The public should not have to sort through the clutter of a typical municipal website during a storm event when essential information is needed immediately”, Mayor Walters said. “This type of an emergency management website has worked well in other coastal communities and our site is modeled after the county’s new emergency management website for consistency. A website like this also simply pushes out essential information immediately and eliminates the confusion and false information that is disseminated by social media”.
The website www.stoneharboremergency.com is also easily viewable on many smart phones that have internet access. The site was created by Joyce Media of Bridgeton, New Jersey who is currently conducting a redesign of the Borough’s municipal website as well.
