STONE HARBOR – According to a borough release regarding the state’s inventory of lead service lines, a clarification was needed “on the number of these lines reported for the borough.
“It was reported that in a recent news article (Press of Atlantic City)… that the borough of Stone Harbor has 1,800 lead service lines. Unfortunately, this number reflects some data that was inaccurately reported to the NJDEP (state Department of Environmental Protection), which is in the process of being corrected.
“The correct number is approximately 600 lines. The reported LSLs are comprised of the gooseneck connections between borough water mains and lateral lines to homes and also include lead found in older homes with copper pipes (lead can be found in the solder used when installing copper lines.)
“The borough diligently strives to provide the public with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water. Water supplies from our system are tested by an independent lab for lead and copper every three years.
Sample results are sent to NJDEP and posted on their website. We are proud to report that our supply of drinking water is safe and there is no lead contamination.”
The release further stated that the borough is “aggressive in upgrading the water system infrastructure and continuously replaces older fittings and connection that may contain lead with ever water system upgrade.”
“The borough…is in compliance with the NJDEP and has never had a positive read, or had a violation, with regard to lead in our drinking water.”
