STONE HARBOR — Councilmen H. Brian Levinson and Karl Giulian attended their last Borough Council meeting as members Dec. 15.
Council-elect members Judy Davies-Dunhour and Joan Kramar will replace Giulian and Levinson.
Giulian, who has served five three-year terms since 1994, sought reelection as an Independent. Throughout his tenure he chaired the borough’s Public Works, Beach/Recreation and Administration and Finance committees.
Levinson contested incumbent Mayor Suzanne Walters during Republican Primary last June with running mates Karen Lane and G. Wayne Harris vying for council seats. Levinson was elected as Council President for 2009. Levinson did not seek reelection as councilman.
“It’s been an honor to represent the people of Stone Harbor for six years. I wish the new council much success in the coming year,” Levinson said.
Council members each thanked Giulian and Levinson for their contributions.
“Brian led efforts of the feral cat program. His questions were appropriate, but not always appreciated,” Councilman Randall Bauer said.
Mayor Suzanne Walters thanked the councilmen for their “dedication to various chores.”
She noted that Giulian had put together the 2010 budget.
“I can’t vote ‘no’ on the budget this year,” Giulian said. He had voted against the last two municipal budgets.
“Levinson has been a challenge from time to time. Both Brian and Karl have caused us reason to think things over from time to time,” Councilman Barry Mastrangelo said.
Councilwoman Joanne Vaul thanked Giulian for his work with the Recreation Advisory Committee.
Levinson, chair of the Natural Resources Committee, often voted ‘no’ on several issues. He voted against rehiring Borough Solicitor Michael Donohue and the new standing committees at the borough’s reorganization meeting Jan. 6, 2009.
