COURT HOUSE – Middle Township officials have learned that a pavement preservation project will occur along sections of Route 47 in the Township in advance of the busy summer travel season. The project is expected to impact sections of Route 47 locally from late May, 2014 through late June, 2014.
According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the Route 47 Pavement Preservation Project will extend to Middle Township, Dennis Township, Maurice River, and Millville. The project limits are defined by the State from Woodcock Lane to Juniper Drive in Cumberland and Cape May counties. All of the work be conducted during the overnight hours from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday, with alternate lane closures. Locally, Route 47 from milepost 10.24 to 17.4 will be part of this project.
The Pavement Preservation Project entails slurry sealing which will extend the current service life of fair to good asphalt pavements and minor drainage work which will be limited to replacing existing inlet heads that do not meet the current standards of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The process includes a ¼” emulsion layer to the pavement that includes small aggregate. There is the potential for increased road noise from this treatment and initial loose debris from the aggregate. The debris will be addressed immediately by the contractor after the application and prior to the road being re-opened to traffic.
