AVALON – Anything that shows movement on the upcoming federal beach replenishment for 7-Mile Island is good news. The periodic beach fills are always highly anticipated events in both Avalon and Stone Harbor.
At the Avalon council work session Sept. 14, borough officials reported that the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) requested use of part of the 28th Street municipal parking lot as a staging area for staff and equipment.
The area is needed ahead of the upcoming federal hydraulic beach replenishment project. The borough has routinely provided a staging area on past beach fill efforts.
Council was told that pictures will be taken before the area is used. DEP has agreed that any damage to the area from the equipment will be restored at no expense to the borough.
Bids for the project have not yet gone out. Assistant Business Administrator James Waldron said the bid process would probably begin by Oct. 28.
