Single-Use Plastic Targeted

By Vince Conti

AVALON – Avalon Borough Council continued its discussion, July 11, of a soon-to-be-introduced ordinance banning the use of single-use plastic and similar materials in bags, food service containers utensils and straws. By design, the Avalon ordinance is tracking the same definitions present in a recently introduced ordinance in Stone Harbor.
By invoking similar changes to municipal codes, the two boroughs hope to avoid confusion by merchants and consumers on Seven Mile Island. Both communities are planning to have a ban on plastics and other non-biodegradable materials take effect June 1, 2019.
