AVALON – Avalon Borough Council introduced an ordinance on peddling and hawking that would end the use of food and ice cream trucks in the borough.
Beach goers would still be able to buy an ice cream in the sun, but they would purchase it from hand-propelled carts engaged in “quiet” selling along the beach during normal hours for beach operations.
Opposition to a requested easement at a property on Seventh Street grew as borough council received letters from over 15 nearby properties opposing the move.
The proposed easement would allow a developer of an over-sized lot to bring plans to the Planning Board for three homes on the lot currently holding one. Neighbors cite traffic, flooding, and congestion among the reasons for opposition.
On Oct. 16, borough council held a special meeting and passed a resolution approving settlement of the legal proceedings concerning the Avalon Anchorage Marina. The resolution states that the borough considers the settlement is “fair and equitable to all sides.”
The settlement is contingent on a similar action being taken by the Avalon Planning/Zoning Board. That board has scheduled a special meeting for Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. Details of the settlement are not yet available.
