SEA ISLE CITY – At its July 26 meeting, City Council approved a resolution for a $169,000 expenditure to build four new bunk rooms in the municipal firehouse with separate quarters for female and male firefighters.

At a previous meeting, council identified those firefighters who will get night shift stipends of $160 per night, according to an earlier decision taken by the governing body for their availability and duty.

Firefighters answering a call during the day are volunteers, while those on duty during the night are a measure to improve response times and related public safety.

The construction contract for the bunk rooms was awarded to Maxwell Construction Co., of Pleasantville. According to city administration, Maxwell was the only company that submitted a bid for the project.
